JARGON BUSTER - mountain bike lingo

Why would you want to clean a hill or drop off when you're on a bike? We will explain...

Rock Garden: A section of trail that is littered with rocks.

Stack: Crash

Clean: To ride an uphill section without stopping or putting your foot down (dabbing).

Drop-off: A stepped-down section of trail that requires you and the bike to “drop-off” to the lower level.

Out of shape: Rider not in the ideal position relative to centre of gravity, line of entry or exit and generally not looking in control.

S**T UP: Covered in mud etc.

North shore: Wooden sections of trail that are raised from the ground.

Bonus: A particularly enjoyable section of trail that you didn’t expect.

Denied: Being caught out by the unexpected.

Berms: Banked corners

Whoops: Small/medium jumps usually in series.

Pearler: A particularly impressive stack.
